Yes you, the infamous Dee Salmon, we will be after you this year, please do not fall for the heavy handed giddy ones flies, as if you take them he will only try to lift you straight out of the water and onto the beach in one foul swoop.
So, when do we start boys, I will be out as soon as the season opens, not to bothered about keeping one, if I catch one I just want to tick the box and let it go merrily on its way
Determined to have one this season....

Just booked the Spey for 3 days in April which will probably be my first outing of 2011, fingers crossed I can get a take this year !!
I went the same time last year, however the week we went 3 months worth of snow melted in just over 24 hrs !!
Result : river rose by over 14 foot !! Needless to say the fishing was not productive, however the good company, food and wine did make the trip fully enjoyable.
tight lines

Just to update this, it is the first day of my salmon season today on the River Ribble, there have been reports of fresh fish still running throughout the winter...

Iwan,
it seems obscene that can fish for them now, although with my luck I need as much time as possible, hoping that with a full season on the Ribble I will have more than the one fish as per last season, although I have to admit the trout and Grayling fishing really suffers as a result of the Salmon.
I had a chat with a knowledgeable chap regarding the late running Salmon, he said that they tend to enter the river, hammer up, spawn then they are off out again, does this happen on the Dee?
