If I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't have believed it!!!! 5 year old Lewis Junior decided that he wanted to venture out on his first fishing trip. So at 10am we got into the car and headed for the river. On arrival ny heart sank as I saw the colour of the perfect height water. However it prompted me to get the spinning rod out and attach my favourite 30g fluo green and orange Toby . Following a few casts Junior decided that he wanted a go.....I cast the spinner slightly upstream and gave him the rod to wind in. To my amazement the rod bent over as the spinner passed the usual spot and before I had a chance to do anything the fish thrashed on the surface and threw the hook. I couldn't believe what had happened but there was more to come!! About half an hour later he decided that he wanted another go and as he wound in the rod went again. This time I was there like a shot and grabbed the rod. A great fight followed........this fish was only about 10lb but it was wild and was very reluctant to come in. It eventually turned over on it's extremely silver side and was ready for landing. I slowly manouvered him ready for the final landing haul and just as he was on his way in he shook his head and threw the hook. Junior looked at me and calmly uttered the word......Crumbs!!!! It was a classic moment and will stay with us both for years I'm sure. We never saw another fish but we left the river with a strange feeling of contentment despite losing 2 fish. This was a one off experience and the chances of such events happening were extremely remote.....but happen they did. Happy Days Chainman

Shame for Lewis junior but there'll be many more for him in the years to come and he'll now badger you forever after a day like that....he'll be hooked for sure.
I was going to venture down today with the fly, didn't as levels were still rising - what was the river like when you left this evening? Be OK with the fly tomorrow?
