Just a quick note to let you know what's been happening on the Sea Trout front over the last couple of days.
A fellow member and I were fortunate enough to catch one a piece on Tuesday on the Berwyn Arms beat.
On Wednesday night a pal and I ventured out for our first night session. It was less than ideal with a cold mist rising from the river as well as a clear sky. However, I did see two and my pal managed one of 1.5lbs.
Last night conditions were the same.......I saw 3 fish and hooked and lost a good fish by the net (estimated 3lb).
The river is now down to summer levels and is perfect for night fishing. The prospects for the weekend are better as it's due to warm up.....I'll keep you posted.

Well I didn't venture out last night as I was shattered and the same applies tonight. However, I'm aware that 3 fish were seen in the Corwen area yesterday and I saw a fish on the same Beat today. It's warmed up and although the skies are clear I'm hoping that we've seen the end of the 7 degree nights which have set off the dreaded river mist . I'm out tomorrow night and will let you know if anything happens. Chainman

Last night was a perfect night for the Silver Bullets. I saw 3 good lumps that I estimated to be 4lb + fairly early on and the prospects were good as it became very dark with the odd light shower. However, they were proving to be far more elusive than I expected. Finally though I managed this 2lb fish on a black and silver tube: - I fished til 2am and had several 'tweaks' in the usual places before returning home to bed......ah well, there's always tonight!!! Almost ready to leave the house......off to the Berwyn Arms tonight and see if I can tempt another Sea Trout. Before I go I thought you should hear what happened this afternoon. I decided to take some coffee to the fishing hut. When I got there I was greeted by Gwilym Hughes who looks after the Beat and he asked me if I had my Salmon tackle with me as the Tuesday rods weren't fishing today. Unfortunately I didn't have the gear or the time, but my Sea Trout rod was set up in the car and I decided to change the point fly for a Salmon fly and give it 10 minutes. Wearing my favourite blue 'Crocs' and shabby shorts I proceeded to fish and on the third cast I got an almighty wallop. I had no net and had to walk knee deep in the river in order to get to a beaching point. Finally I got there and managed to land this: - A 4lber........Happy Days!!! Chainman

Nice fish.
I went through the beat with the same gear on Monday after talking to Gwilym during the day before you arrived to fish the evening with no luck - only difference being I had wading boots and chest waders on and was sweating like a racehorse!
How did you get on last night?
Matt

Fished beat above Corwen during the day, no salmon but saw a few sea trout moving about so moved to Berwyn later on and fished till 01:00hrs, conditions not great as the moon keep trying to peer over the hill.
A few fish moving about when the cloud came over, I managed one take and one fish, sea trout 1.5lb on a small tube

A strange night last night to say the least. A full moon graced us with its presence and whilst it made fishing far easier than usual, it did little to assist the three of us who were mad enough to venture to the Berwyn.
I only managed to lose 2 fish but Matt and Cadi managed a fish a piece - one of 3/4lb (three quarters) and one of half a pund....both were returned.
I saw a total of 5 fish........3 of which were 4lbs+ and one was a real 'lump'. We also saw a fresh fish of around 5lbs but I suspect it was a grilse although it did show in similar fashion to a Sea Trout.
I'm told that the Salmon numbers entering the river are disappointing but the Sea Trout are still entering in numbers.
Hope to see some of you on the river one night soon........it's a shame to waste the opportunity and it'll be all over in 6-8 weeks.

Good to see you both last night and lets hope that grilse we saw was the first of many, maybe this weekends fresh rain will get his mates in the estuary on the move!!

Well it's all gone relatively quiet......I was out Monday night on a private beat and managed one fish of about a pound but all in all it was poor with only a few tweaks and a rather heavy pull to show for my efforts. I then ventured out to the Berwyn on Wednesday night with Cadi the Cockerel (heh heh!!!) and we saw a couple of fish but we caught nothing. Despite needing some sleep and ventured back to the Berwyn last night......saw nothing and caught nothing. As we speak I'm aware of a fish caught this evening (1.5lbs) but on the whole it's disappointing at the moment Chainman

Not great to hear there's not a lot on the move at the moment but I was going to venture out last night so glad to hear I made the right choice!! A cold wind got up here yesterday evening hence my absence on the river.
Oxford for me this weekend but out on Monday, good luck tomorrow!
