What a difference a day makes........I can honestly say that I have never experienced such a night of Sea Trout fishing in my life. I only managed the two fish but lost several and the amount of pulls was nothing short of unbelieveable. It was non stop, almost every cast for a 2 hour period . The river was alive with them last night and I actually had 5 pulls in one cast!!!!!! My previous post hinted at the fact that there were very few Sea Trout in the Corwen area........I must apologise as the pools were stuffed with fish last night. The smaller fish was about a pound in weight but then this fella decided to take the black and silver tube........some tremendous runs and tail walking followed before I finally managed to land all 4.5lbs of him: - That's 10 for the season now......Happy Days!!! Nice fish. Just a quick question to clarify, i have a trout membership, does that mean I can or can not fish for sea trout at night? I have been told yes/no from different people I have met on the river. I have a full EA license for migratory fish, was just wondering if i can night fish for sea trout without the salmon membership? if not can i pay extra? Thanks in advance Lyndon

Throw away the articles and books written by the Sea Trout 'experts'. Disregard anything that you've been told about these fish.....I must apologise to so many people for misleading them. I left the river perplexed but happy on Wednesday night........the more I catch of these magnificent creatures the less I understand 3 1/4lb, 1 1/2lb and 1 1/4lb. The temp. dropped by 6 degrees, the skies became clear and the mist rose off the fields and river.......that's when the fish started taking - not a touch in the hour or so of so called perfect conditions!!!!! I have it on good authority that they've been entering the river in large numbers of late.....Happy Days!!!! Chainman

We're about 3 weeks away from proper Sea Trout time in the Corwen area. I'm happy to report that there are more than reasonable numbers of fish entering the system and they've been doing so for the last month or so If anyone has any questions on tactics etc please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help you. Well it's almost here......next week the herald of what I believe to be the first proper week of the Sea Trout season. The Foxgloves will be open to the top of the stem, Llangollen Eisteddfod will commence and these events usually herald the beginning of Sea Trout catche at night.
Furthermore, I would envisage that the river will drop from Monday onwards, weather permitting, as there are no water releases on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
The only negative is that there will be a full moon on the 3rd July. Let's hope for some clouds and some Silver Bullets....... Black and Silver Tubes at the ready folks!!!!!

Just a quick question about one part of your mail. You mention "No water releases on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday". Does that mean that, in general, water is released on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday?
Do we know anything about the release policies? When it happens, does it tend to always be one particular day of the week?
Can you shed some light on this subject?

I'm just starting out fishing at night so it would be really helpful if you could tell me what length and weight of tube fly you use please Chainman -would 2 ins light Aluminium be OK? Also, do you use a floating or intermediate line and do you only start after it's properly dark or during dusk? Would I do best on Taylors to fish from the middle current to my bank at the edge or should I cast further across to the other bank and come to the dangle further out from my bank? Finally do you move the fly at night as it swings round or only as it comes to the dangle? Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

Finally do you move the fly at night as it swings round or only as it comes to the dangle? Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance. If you're just starting then you've got a fantastic experience ahead of you . It's not everyone's 'cup of tea' as being alone in complete darkness only appeals to a few of us, but believe you me, it's a very worthwhile experience. First of all, 2 inch tubes may work but I use 1 1/4 inch aluminium tubes. This is the pattern: - I generally use a floater but only because I find that the Dee fishes better when the water is low. When using a floater I have a 2ft length of sinking braided leader. Having said that, I've had some good nights when the water is slightly higher and I have been known to use a DI3 line in such cases. I use 2 flies at all times...........a tube on the point and a Dyfi Black and Orange on the dropper. The length of the cast is about 10ft.....5ft to the dropper. I fish at dusk but tend to stay away from the Pools until darkness mainly fishing the runs into Pools. I sometimes use a large single Teal Blue and Siver on the point at dusk before changing to the Tube once darkness has arrived. Regarding Tailor's, there is no need to wade at all.....fish as you would for Salmon, casting across the Pool towards the opposite bank and let it come round without moving the flies. Once on the dangle I figure of 8 very slowly for a few seconds. This can be a very effective method Hope this helps and if you need to know more then just ask.......no need to PM as I'm more than happy to post the information on here in the hope that several members can benefit.
