My God.....how do normal people cope?!!!! I'm sat here practically chewing the computer thinking about the excellent river level and weather conditions. Due to various commitments I wont be able to fish until at least.........now let me think - tomorrow!!!!!
I'll keep my ear to the ground today and let you know what's happening but in the meantime spare a thought for a poor soul who isn't able to go fishing!!!!

What a bloomin lark this Salmon fishing is ;D. After a break yesterday I got to the river early to be greeted by the sight of a huge fish splashing in the intended pool. This was at least the same size as the one shown earlier in this thread Within 10 minutes I was into a fish....it came off!! The river was still dropping and I thought to myself "today's the day". I fished hard all day and hooked and lost another fish but despite seeing fish moving all day I left the river fishless. I spoke to several anglers who were out yesterday and they had all struggled although I am aware of at least one fish which came off the Berwyn Arms yesterday and of 3 fish hooked and lost in the 'Private Beat'. After falling this morning the river rose again this afternoon........maybe this has something to do with the fact that the fish are in the doldrums - who knows!!!! Chainman

Well I haven't fished since Saturday but I know that a few fish have been caught despite these awful fishing conditions.
I'm told that 3 fish were caught on Chain Poll on Saturday.......to my knowledge these haven't been reported but I will get to the bottom of it.
Another 3 were caught on Sunday on the beat down from Chain and another one was caught there today. I saw a fish of 10lbs or so which was caught on the pool above Chain Pool yesterday.
I can report that there are several Salmon in several pools waiting for the next flood........will it arrive before the end of the season? - let's hope so.

Well I have very little to report tonight.........mainly due to the fact that I've been in France for most of the day. However, I know that there are several fresh grilse in our waters and that a 12lb fish was caught on a fly in the bright sunshine today on the Private Beat. I meant to say last night......this is the best time of year for Trout and Grayling on a dry fly in the day. I've been watching the fish rise in bright sunshine, feeding on the insects which crawl off the falling leaves. Dry patterns such as Sunfly's, F Flies and Cul de Canons are all you need. I'm going to try something a little different for the Salmon this weekend.......small salmon flies under a sight indicator !!!! I'll let you know how it goes. Tight Lines Chainman

I think I've said it on here before, fishing for migratory fish is one of those very few things in life that the more you partake the less you understand. I arrived at the river this morning and conditions were perfect.....warm and overcast. I saw 4 fish in 15 minutes - all fresh grilse and thought 'Game On'. Despite my best efforts in the best places I was fishless and breakfast duly arrived. Over breakfast we had a chat about just about everything whilst the sun evaporated the cloud cover. Wthin half an hour it was bright and baking hot.......Game Over thought I. However, the fish activity increased and there were good numbers of fish travelling through the Beat. The vast majority of them were fresh grilse and I headed to fish the least likely place in such low water.....why I went there I'll never know but go I did. On the second cast I was amazed when the line tore off the reel and an absolute bar of silver of 5lbs started to jump wildly over the slow and shallow run. Eventually it came into the net and I have to say that I was absolutely gobsmacked that I'd caught a fish in such conditions and in such water. What then followed amazed me even more. During the day I saw dozens and I mean dozens of running fish, again mainly fresh grilse and at one point between 3pm and 3.30pm there were huge numbers of fish travelling the Beat. At around 4pm the sun began its retreat and I fished until 6pm in ever increasing 'good' conditions and guess what?.....I never saw another fish!!! ;D I keep saying it and I'll say it again....there are big numbers of fish in the river. Conditions are tough but if you persevere there's a chance that you'll catch. Tight Lines Chainman

It is a private beat (not syndicate or leased) between CADACwaters.

Well a rare trip out for me today (little kids and very hectic work to blame!), 6th outing on the Dee this season. Hoped to catch first light on Chain but was beaten to it by some even more eager anglers, so tried Taylors. Saw 4 fish move in space of 15 mins by the tree - probably same fish?, also saw 2 fish moving in tail of pool. I'm sure there's quite a few fish in there, but I couldnt tempt them. Then tried Chain, saw a couple of small black coloured grilse in the body of the pool and also saw a big fish move in the tail. No luck for me there though. I then headed to Tyfos, but saw some guys tackling up there so thought I would leave them to it so went to try the middle (I think) Crogen beat for the first time. A beautiful stretach but I struggled to find good fly water there. Lovely bit of the vale to fish though, but a lot of walking and very little casting meant no salmon and my lunchtime curfew was up! Good to be out, the river is full of them, just needs a decent angler to connect!
