CADAC Migratory Fish Report 04/08/12 ; five Salmon 'phoned in by members since my last report . These fish were mainly caught early in the week before the river dropped . They were as follows ; a 10lb fish off Chain on fly....released , a 9lb fish off Chain on worm.....released ,an 8lb fish off Chain on fly also released , an 8lb fish off Llyn Du on worm....released and a 10lb fish off the Wharf on spinner....kept . I must point out that the one fish that was kept was the members' second fish , was fresh run and so he was , under CADACs' newly adopted Salmon catch and release policy entitled to keep it if he wished to . We have now had 33 salmon reported for the season and although the river is now quite low there are both Salmon and Grilse on our beats and although it is harder to catch on low water it is still possible and indeed very rewarding to do so . One Sea Trout was reported of about 1 1/2 lbs and a larger one lost by a member fishing for Brown Trout and Grayling on the Town Water . Keep the Faith......Mick

Migratory Fish Report 10/08/12 ; Three Salmon reported since my last entry ; a 9lb fish off Chain on worm.....released , a 10 lb fish off St. Davids' on fly ....... released and an 8lb fish off Taylors' on fly..... released . So despite the river generally being low fish continue to be caught (and thankfully released)....as the saying goes ' if your fly is in the water ' , this also seems to apply to 'if your worm is in the water' . There seem to be Grilse moving through at present and I am told that the trap at Chester is catching numbers of fish , so keep trying ! Sea Trout ; a 3lb fish on fly whilst fishing for Trout and Grayling on the Town Water....returned , two 1lb fish caught after dark on the Berwyn on fly ....one kept , one returned and a 1 1/4 lb fish off Whiskey on a Rapala....returned . An interesting story attached to the last fish , I am currently selling part of my huge collection of Rapalas (I don't seem to use them anymore) and was approached by one of our members on the riverbank to see if I still had some for sale . I had some in my glove box to show to someone else . The fisherman sellected two 11cm floaters . I pointed out that I had found one of his sellected patterns particularly deadly in the past having caught 5 Salmon and 3 Sea Trout on one favoured plug of that pattern before I lost it on Tyfos . The gentleman concerned said that he had found just such a plug on Tyfos and had gone on to catch a Salmon on it before it was broken . So I guess that the one plug had caught 6 Salmon and three Sea Trout before it 'died' . Anyway on with my story , this member then tied on the 'killer pattern' and cast it into Whiskey Pool....despite having fished through before he tied on this killer patterm he was soon into a very nice little Sea Trout . Sadly Rapala discontinued this pattern , don't know why , perhaps it just caught too many fish ? Keep the Faith......Mick

Migratory Fish Report 19/08/12 . Well I have just got back from my Holidays in the Caravan , I can't wait to get back to our river with a fly rod in my hand . I have kept contact during the week , popping back to feed the ferrets , chickens etc and have had my eyes opened to the wonders of a 'Dongle' and a lap top , amazing what can be done in this modern age ! Anyway enough of my wittering.....Salmon , two reported for the week , an 8lb fish on fly off Chain.....returned and a 14lb fish off Chain on a Rapala.....returned . Sea Trout , one off the Berwyn on fly.....returned . So we are now on 38 Salmon for the season , 32 released and 6 kept . Please keep it up . On a more disturbing note I have very recently been told by one of our Club Bailifs of a man fishing Taylors who had lost his fly (flies) on the dead tree on the Capenhurst side of the pool . The man , despite others wanting to fish the pool , tried to wade across the main body of the pool to retrieve them . I don't know if he realised that in so doing that he would have disturbed some of the main taking lies on the pool and so ruined things for those waiting to fish . Perhaps he was not bothered about that . This man then went on to tell our Bailif that if he did catch a Salmon he would be 'phoning me to say that he had caught two fish as he has every intention of taking his 'first' Salmon . I do so look forward to that phone call ! Thank goodness that the vast majority of our members are acting in a responsible way , to behave otherwise will only bring about 100% catch and release on the river . Keep the Faith.....Mick

Migratory Fish Report 25/08/12 ; a goodish week for Salmon , a 6 1/2 lb fish off the Run on worm ....released , a 7lb fish off Taylors on spinner.....released , a 4lb fish off Whiskey on fly.....released , a 9/10lb fish off Taylors on fly......released , an 8lb fish on fly on St Davids......released and a 9lb fish on worm off the Run.....kept (this was this members forth CADAC fish of the season and the first he has kept and so was entitled to keep 'if he wished' ). Sea Trout ; only one fish reported for the week , a 1 1/2 lb fish on fly off St Davids.....released.....not what I was looking for but a very pretty little fish non the less . I did venture to the river this morning to find it an Oxtail Soup colour and rising , saw a couple of running Grilse but caught 'nowt' . Another member told me though that he had lost a fish on a 'spinner' this morning . I drove to our top beat but even there it was very coloured . Keep the Faith.....Mick

Migratory Fish Report 01/09/12 ; Well a good week and a particularly good day today . One skilled ( ? Lucky ) angler caught two fish in 10 minutes , an 8/9lb fish and a 10/11lb fish , both on spinner off St Davids......both released ! a 10/12lb fish off the Run on Fly.....returned , a 4lb Fish of the Afon Ceirw on worm.....returned , a 10lb fish off the Wharf on spinner.....returned . This brings me to today , an 8lb Fish off Chain on spinner....returned , followed closely by another 8lb fish of the Chain on spinner by a different angler....returned and lastly a 12/13lb fish off Taylors on spinner ......returned . Also two other Fish from the 'Corwen area' , one to myself and one to Chainman . So five fish for the day in relatively high water in our fishing area . Interestingly whilst fishing today I spotted a dead Salmon at the edge of the river , a nice Hen Fish of about 9lbs , perhaps died about two days ago ? The only obvious sign of injury being a bite about 1 1/2 inches across on the underside of the Fish in the wrist area , this causing the tail 'flop about' . I presume but don't really know , that this might have been caused by an Otter . I can't imagine her being able to get this far up river if it was Seal damage.....I would guess that the fish would have had great difficulty in swimming ....what a shame ! Four Sewin reported this week , 1/2 lb from the Wharf , spin ....released , 2lb fish from the Wharf....released , 1 1/2lb fish from Signal , on spinner....taken , 1lb fish from the Wharf on spinner.....released . So 52 Salmon reported for the season , 7 kept the rest returned....think how many extra eggs this will put into the river and hopefully more adult Salmon in about 4 or 5 years time . Please keep up the good work ! Keep the Faith....Mick

Migratory Fish Report 09/09/12 ; Nine Salmon reported since my last entry , three for the Saturday of 01/09/12 , a 5lb Fish off Whiskey....returned , a 10lb fish off St Davids....returned and a 5lb Fish off Chain.....returned....I think that makes nine Fish for the day around Corwen for Saturday 1st ! Also a 10lb fish off Gwnodl Bach....kept , a 7lb Fish off Gwnodl Bach....released , a 10lb Fish off Taylors.....released , an 8lb Fish off the Bridge Pool.....released , a 5lb Fish off Whiskey.....released , an 18lb fish off Chain.....kept and an 11lb fish off the run ....released . Sea Trout ; a 1lb fish off the Run....released , a 1lb fish of Chain....released , a 2lb fish off Chain .....released and a 1 1/4 lb fish off Berwyn.....kept . More rain on the way , there are fish in the river....one lost yesterday and another this morning....Tight Lines.....Mick

Migratory Fish Report 16/09/12 ; a 6lb Fish off Tyfos on Spinner.....returned , a 12lb Fish off Chain on fly.....returned , a 10lb fish on spinner off Llyn Du .....returned , a 15lb Fish off the Wharf on spinner.....returned , an 18lb Fish on fly off St Davids.....returned , a 4lb Fish off Berwyn Pool on spinner.....returned and a 4 1/2lb Fish off that 'nice fishy bit ' below Taylors on worm .....returned . Sea Trout ; a 40 cm fish off Eatons' Reach on fly returned and a 30 cm fish off Eatons' Reach on fly.....returned . Pleased to say that having started Salmon fishing in 2007 , when I caught my first ever Salmon (and the only fish of that season) on St Davids , that I caught my 30th Welsh Dee Salmon on Friday this week (on a beat in the Corwen area). It was a fish off about 15lbs caught on my usual 'Flamethrower Wullie Gunn' . A big , ugly , strong , red fish with an enormous kype and a really bad attitude.....seems appropriate really . TIP OF THE WEEK.....if you are a ham handed sort of fisherperson , who tightens his/her rod joints just a tad too much and despite much pulling , twisting and swearing at the end of the fishing session can't get the joint appart......do the following . Take home , being careful not to trap said valuable rod in the car door , wrap the joint in a large bag of frozen mini waffles , they have to be mini waffles mind , leave for 5 minutes and then gentley pull the joint apart with a satisfying 'pop'....Magic !!! Tight lines and Keep the Faith ......Mick

Anything cold works, but it MUST be edible and fattening. The one thing that DOESN'T work is those aerosal bottles of Plus Gas or WD40. A friend tried it and the rod NEVER came apart again.
Finally. Anyone fishing tomorrow (Monday 17th), come and join me for a drink at lunchtime. Its my 3 score year and 10 birthday, so hereafter I guess I'm on borrowed time! Location is Berwyn picnic tables.

Migratory Fish Report 23/09/12 ; Salmon...4lb Fish off the 'water above Whiskey' on fly....returned , 20lb Fish off the water 'below Taylors' (but landed in Whiskey after a prolonged fight) on fly.....returned , 13lb Fish off Taylors on fly.....returned , 10lb Fish off the Chain on spinner .....returned another 10lb Fish off the Chain on spinner....returned , 6lb Fish off Chain on spinner.....kept , 10lb Fish off the Run on worm....returned , 12lb Fish off Taylors on fly.....returned , 14lb Fish off the Chain on worm .....returned , 12lb Fish off Chain on worm.....returned . Sea Trout ; only one reported , 1lb on spinner off the Run.....kept . Obviously there are Fish about , some days lots seem to be showing on other days nothing !
