Migratory Fish Report 30/09/12 ; Salmon , 20lb Fish off Chain on worm.....released , 8lb Fish 'below Taylors .....released , 20lb Fish off Chain on fly ....released , 10lb Fish off Tyfos on fly.....released , 6lb Fish off the river Alwen on spinner.....released , a 4lb and 5lb Fish off Tyfos on spinner both released , a 10lb Fish off the Wharf on spinner.....kept , a 10lb Fish off the Chain on worm.....released , a 6 1/2lb Fish off Chain on spinner.....released . Sea Trout ; 1lb fish off the Run .....kept , 3lb fish off the Wharf....kept , and three 1lb fish off the river Alwen....all returned . Please remember it is Fly and Spin only in October for Salmon , NO BAIT ! Now for a short story , shall we call it a 'Bad morning on the Afon Ceirw , Good afternoon on the Afon Alwen' . I went to the Ceirw in the week as the main river was very high . When I got there I noticed a large blue van with a sign on the side adverising canoe and kayak instruction . My morning was starting to go downhill ! I chatted with two club members who had arrived just before me . Now we move on to when I returned up river ....on the way I met one of our Bailifs , Gareth (the Demon of the Dee ) Roberts . Gareth and I spent the next couple of hours deflecting numbers of canoists who seemed quite insistant on launching their canoes our stretch of river . We managed to persuade them not to . Now for the happy bit , Gareth and I went to the Alwen where I was very pleased to net Gareths' seventh CADAC Salmon of the season which was also his third migratory fish of the afternoon . He has caught another Dee Salmon since then.....great company and a great fisherman . It's raining again and the river is starting to rise again but keep trying you never know ! Keep the Faith......Mick

CADAC Migratory Fish Report 07/10/12 ; 3lb Fish off Signal on spinner....returned , 4lb Fish off the Afon Ceirw....kept , 20lb + Fish off Wharf on spinner.....returned (it apparently ran that far it almost emptied the spool....well done Arwel) , 8lb Fish off the Ceirw on spinner......returned , 5lb Fish off the Ceirw on spinner....returned , 4lb Fish off the Ceirw on spinner.....returned , 15lb Fish off St Davids on spinner ....returned , a 7/8lb Fish off the Alwen on spinner.....returned and an 11lb Fish off Crogen on spinner....returned . I have also heard rumours of a 20lb Fish off Signal yesterday and another fish off the Wharf but not yet reported . I am now going to tell you a story (again) , yesterday I was rather busy but got to Corwen at about 3.30pm . I intended going to the Alwen with a single handed fly rod having caught a Fish and lost a Fish there on Friday . I stopped to look at the main river from the swimming pool bridge , the river was high but running clear . I decided to give the Alwen a miss and instead fish a stretch of the main river 'in the Corwen Area' . Now I have fished the fly for the vast majority of the season but a high river and a rapidly disapearing season made me dust off my 'big' spinning rod and prepare to 'chuck some metal' . I very soon had a fish boil at my 'Gaffers' special' in the tail of a pool but no take , next cast a knock but nothing more . A few more casts and I moved to the head of the pool . First cast and I was into a Salmon which all to quickly came unstuck . I walked to the top of the beat and fished my way down.....nothing . Back to the tail of the big pool , now I am new to this water but am beging to discover a few places where I might catch a fish . I made a long cast to a spot where I had seen a fish moving a couple of weeks ago in a similar height of water . First cast and into a 12lb cock fish , netted and returned . I had nipped off one prongs of the treble to aid unhooking . Another cast to the same spot , now with a double hooked Gaffers' special and straight into a 8lb hen fish , netted and returned but loosing another prong on the hook to aid unhooking . Mmmm......do I risk fishing with a single hook , it is my last copper blaided special . I opted for a silver bladed version . Third cast , was it possible to get three in three casts? . Past the previous taking spot but as my lure swung into the bank....bang ! but no hook up (I think it was a trout ). Five casts later whilst cursing my lack of copper blades the take came in the same spot as the first two.....a 6lb hen fish , netted and safely returned . I could not believe it , three Salmon in eight casts on the Welsh Dee . It was now 5.30pm , my usual two hour fishing session (I had managed 3hrs on Friday) . So off home . Is the Dee system full of fish or am I indeed very lucky ? Four Salmon landed , two lost and a follow in five hours fishing ! Rock and Roll , hope I can get out again soon . Keep the Faith....Mick

Well the season is now over......thank goodness for that ! Obsession can be exhausting . Time to clean the cork on my rods , clean and oil my reels and try to improve my fly tying skills . The Tyfos Fish has turned up and another reported off St Davids . That takes us up to 128 Salmon and 61 Sea Trout for the season . There might still be a few Fish to come in and I will do my final report next Wednesday . I know that it's not a numbers game but we are up on catches for last year , release rates are hugely better and thanks to everyone for that . Fish were streaming up the river yesterday and my hopes and good wishes go with them . The standard of the Fish this year has been magnificent , many deep , broad , hard fighting Fish have been caught (and usually released) , lots of Fish in the high teens and around the 20 lb mark.....superb ! My Wife has a long list of jobs that I have not done but maybe I will be able to sneak out to shoot a few pheasants , ferret a few rabbits and catch a few Grayling ....who knows ? The EA are making a 'Catch and Release' DVD . This highlights the prefered ways of ensuring that your Salmon are returned to the river in good condition . I hope that it will become available soon . So any Fish not yet reported please get them in soon so that the final report can be produced . Keep the Faith.....Mick

Migratory Fish Report 24/10/12 ; this is the final report for the 2012 season . Total Salmon reported for the season is 128 (1 up on last season) , it is reported that out of these 111 were returned to the river to breed and 17 were kept . This is an excellent effort by our Salmon fishermen and women . I believe that only 8 of these Fish carried Environment Agency Tags . Sea Trout ; 63 reported for the season . Most fish as a bye catch when members have been Salmon fishing but a few taken after dark by members actually going out to catch them . Some Sea Trout also accidentaly caught by Trout and Grayling members , some fish even coming to the dry fly . So all in all a good season , some members having caught impressive numbers of Fish as a reward for the many hours they have put in on the river . Others of us have just been lucky ! Keep the Faith and good luck with the Grayling.....Mick
