Well folks it's been a while but finally I have at least something to report. The rain yesterday rendered the river in perfect condition today and I ventured out for an hour this evening. Another blank BUT I did see 2 fish. The first was a splash courtesy of a less than double figure fish.....the second was a superb head and tail. This second fish was a 10lbish specimen and was an absolute bar of silver. Both showed in the usual spots when fish are running I have a sneaking suspicion that Mick will have something to tell us at the end of the week!!! Chainman

The fish are still there. Sat on the bank at Taylors eating my picnic on Wednesday to be greeted by a huge splash just below the hut. The way it showed leads me to think it was moving upstream. Couldn't interest it in my offerings but it does give one confidence to actually see a fish moving.

Another fish was spotted on Wednesday in Tailor's Pool and I saw a large fresh fish showing in shallow water further upstream ........this was also running.
The situation as it stands is that the river had dropped slightly and cleared to a fishable state - this was about an hour ago. However, it's been raining here for the last 3 hours or so and more is forecasted overnight.
With the recent high tides and this water there are sure to be a few fish around when all is settled.

Hooked a fish in Taylors this morning had on for nearly 10 minutes and as soon as he turned on his side to come ashore out came the hook. Damn and blast!! hooked in some soft part I guess but hey it's the earliest fish hooked for me. Roll on next Wednesday. Fred.

A Tale of Two Freds Well done to Mr. Miers who succeeded to hook a fish today - the earliest of his fishing career. A very well done to Mr. Whitelaw who landed his first fish of the year this afternoon and an even bigger well done to him for allowing his fishing companion to catch a fish in Tailor's A 15lber was also caught in the Junction this afternoon so all in all a good day at the office for those of us who managed to get there Keep it up folks.......it's great to hear that there are some fish and that Corwen Anglers are once again leading the way with Salmon catches on the Upper Dee. Well it's still raining but I'm surprised that we haven't got more water. It rose slowly all day today however a rodon the Junction saw 6 fish and lost a fish this morning. His fishing companion also lost a fish I'm due out tomorrow but looking at the forecast I somehow doubt that it will happen . Chainman

We've had heavy showers all day along with heavy rainfall last night. The river is still rising and coloured and I somehow doubt that tomorrow will bring any joy.
I'll keep you posted on river conditions over the next few days.

As I suspected there has been very little change in height since last night. However, I'm sure that it will be fishable tomorrow at a push and I would guess that we'll see a few fish caught from Tuesday onwards depending of course on the weather!!

Well it's been a while since I've posted on here due to work commitments and fishing related issues which had to be dealt with. I never thought the day would come when I was pleading for dry weather but after recent deluges it's got to the stage where enough is enough. We've recently had to endure high levels of water releases as the reservoirs are full and just as I thought things may settle the river is rising and very coloured in Corwen. I was told that the majority of the coloured water was coming down the Alwen......this being the case it may be worth fishing the Beats upstream of Cynwyd. However, I can't verify that this is the case so don't take my word for it. We're on a par with last year in terms of catches but Salmon numbers entering the Trap at Chester are said to be low although Sea Trout numbers are good. Whilst I write this it's throwing it down and has been for some time so folks I'm sorry to say that prospects aren't good Chainman

Your note too late for the early starters, I was well on my way to Corwen when you sent it, and anyway with it being "old codgers day", we go anyway. Its a meeting of the geriatric gang, something nice to eat and a bottle of wine and some fishing too.
Berwyn etc was coloured, as you said, more a peat stain than cloudy with suspended matter therein. 4 of us did nothing and saw nothing and after lunch ventured upstream through a downpour to Typhos. Current there was less strong, but quickly got dirty and bottom could only be seen in about 1.5 feet depth. With the benefit of hindsight, might have been better to have been at Typhos in the morning.
On way home at about 7.30 went across the bridge above Bridge pool, surprised it looked stained, but without the suspended matter seen up at Typhos, maybe it had not yet reached that far downstream.
Good to see river level at Corwen today has dropped back down to yesterday's level after the 6.00pm upwards blip.

Freddie Hi Freddie Just another note to you and all Salmon anglers that the river will be very fishable tomorrow........it was high today but would have fished. The river is surprisingly low considering the amount of rain yesterday and the height of the river prior to the rain. Chainman

Just when we thought the river was going to drop we get a full day of rain!!!! I fished this afternoon as a guest on a lower Beat than usual and the river rose slightly and also coloured a touch. As I crossed bridge at Corwen I noticed that the water was colouring quickly due to a flooded tributary. However I was reasonably confident that all would be well for tomorrow until tonight. It's absolutely hammered it down this evening and as I write this I can still hear the sound of heavy rain. Who knows what the state of the river will be in the morning but I don't imagine that it will fish tomorow. On the fish front I'm sorry to say that there is a real lack of them and reports from lower down the river aren't good. All in all folks it's extremely disappoiniting on all fronts Chainman

I was out visiting someone near Betws y coed this afternoon and came back via Corwen. The rain was hammering down, as Iwan said, but inconsistent. I stopped on the Corwen swimming pool bridge, looking upstream the RHS was filthy muddy coloured, the LHS was clear and I could easily see the rocks and weeds in the water. There must have been a cloudburst on the hill opposite Corwen and it was poring (and roaring) down the tributary that comes through the trailer business just above the bridge. By the time it reached Chain, it was all nicely mixed up and a consistent cloudy colour.
I went upstream to Cynwyd bridge. Water was clear and the bottom was visible under all arches. So I set off upstream with the intention of fishing one of the Crogen beats. Crogen 1 looked pretty good so I changed into fishing gear and fished the top half. The current was a bit strong for fly, so got the spinner out. Within an hour it was colouring up fast and I then gave up. At Cilan bridge it was still pretty clear, presumably it had not yet reached there. As Iwan says, I expect it will be pretty mucky, high and unfishable on Saturday.

The river as you might expect is still high......just fishable with a spinner tonight but not ideal. They are forecasting more rain tonight and tomorrow so Lord only knows!!!!!
On a brighter note there does appear to be a change in the weather prospects from the end of the week onwards.....I'll do my best to keep you informed.
