I spent the whole day today on the Dee and my aches and pains are telling me that it was a hard shift. The story of my season continues......not a single touch!!!!! However, I did see 18 fish ......the vast majority were grilse and they were on the move. Most of the fish were seen at Chain Pool but I would imagine that they've long gone by now!!!! There are fish folks - get out there and catch them......I certainly can't!!!!!! Chainman

What a difference a day made.........I fished on Friday after seeing 18fish on Thursday and saw nothing - not a one!!!! I did however hook one . A very brief encounter which reulted in a couple of yards of line off the reel before it let go. I fished all day today and only saw 5 fish and nothing doing. I've just been told about a fish caught in the Bala area tonight but all in all a quiet few days. Chainman

The water is still high but it is dropping slightly. It was unfishable to all intents and purposes yesterday evening but with a bit of luck that will change today.....who knows?!!!!!!! I've got a lot of work on today so I won't see the river until later tonight.......I'll do my best to keep you posted. Chainman

The water is still high and fairly coloured although it is slowly dropping. I know of 4 fish caught today in Corwen........2 on Club waters and 2 on Syndicated waters. I fished all day and never saw a fish but did manage one of 8lb which was returned. Two Club members caught a fish a piece and they were also returned. These were fresh.....well done chaps! The remaining fish had a touh of colour and that was also released. I can't speak for the other anglers, but mine was taken on a heavy fluorescent tube with 15ft of fast sinking polyleader and I was hitting the bottom at times Not a good fishing day according to the books but all in all a satisfying day. Apologies for the lack of info of late but I have to admit to being busier than I would like recently !!!!!!! The water has now fined off and I guess we'll get a reasonable idea of fish numbers over the next couple of days as they should start showing in numbers. I have a sneaking suspicion that they've gone upstream but I hope I'm wrong. I fished last night for just under 2 hours on and above the Chain Pool Beat- I saw 4 fish, caught two and lost another.......this was a case of right place, right time. I'm not convinced though that we've got the usual September concentration of fish. I hope to have a few hours tomorrow and I'll let you know what happens. Chainman

At least 3 fish caught in Corwen today.......one on Club waters. There are some large fish around and the three today were 2 x 15lb and mine was a 14lber.
The majority are coloured but the CADAC fish was a fresh one.
I'm pleased to say that all 3 were returned. I'm happy to say that we are now on 66 fish with 57 released. This is a fantastic achievement and thanks to those who are playing their part.

I spoke to a Syndicate member on the phone this afternoon who told me that the water was up and at a lovely height. We had very little rain yesterday but the Bala area had more than its fair share - I was shocked to see the river in such fine fettle when I hurriedly arrived at the river. The gentleman in question was on his way home having fished since this morning and only seen one fish.......I decided to head for Chain Pool. On arrival I was amazed that there was nobody else there but having seen the Freddie photo I guess everyone was at the Berwyn!!!!!! I fished my 2 hours with no result but was amazed to see 12 fish . These were a real mixed bag of couloured and fresh fish and they were running. I then moved to a Beat upstream of the Wharfe and fished for another hour......I saw nothing!! Years ago we would regularly see fish moving on Chain when all other Beats seemed devoid of them but until this year this trend had changed. Why this happened today I have no idea, needless to say though "It's a funny old game". Chainman

During , and since the 2012 season i heard a few anglers commenting on how few salmon were in the river as " they had fished all season and caught none and hardly seen any fish " . I urge those anglers to walk the riverbank in the next week or so now just to see how many dead salmon there are along the river . I walked one of our beats today and counted 8 dead salmon in less than 500 yards of river . Surely that is a sign that the salmon stocks are healthy . Are angler's excuses doing salmon stock numbers a disservice?
