Well I'm just back from a long drive to Bear Town and back , all day at a wedding and the reception . I could not help but wonder how you were all getting on at the river , on , in my mind one of the most promising days of the year , good water after a long period of drought in mid September . In my mind everyone on the river must be into at least their third fish of the day . My only solace was when I crept out of the reception and went into a local shop , the radio was on and Stoke scored a goal against Liverpool as I listened ....whoopy!! Anyway the catch report for the week ; Sunday 4th Sept , one fish off Taylors' on the fly , Friday the 9th , one fish off St. Davids' and one off Signal . I was on the river yesterday and did hear of three other fish being caught , these fish have not yet been reported . One fish reputed to weigh 21.5lbs was , I was told by several people was caught by a man with a Welsh accent driving a Land Rover Freelander....he had allegedly also caught 4 Sea Trout . I do look forward to recieving reports of these fish and any others caught that I am not aware of . I also had a report of a Salmon caught 'about three weeks ago , this member had apparently phoned me before and I had not been in . It is true that I do not sit by my phone awaiting catch reports but as I made clear on this Forum when I started this job if I'm not in leave a message and I will get back to you (despite the detrimental effects to my phone bill). On the Sea Trout front 7 reported for the week and one for last week 'sometime' . On determined angler reporting a catch of five fish in a short daytime session (after 6pm but before dark) in the high water on the 7th . Sadly I am aware that more Sea Trout are being caught but not reported by those who should know better . Reporting fish to me by phone takes between one or two minutes , it is really easy to do , some members elect to chat after the report....this is fine . I really do not understand why all the fish caught on CADAC beats are not reported , it is a very easy process . Good luck in the week to come . Keep the Faith......Mick

I also had a report of a Salmon caught 'about three weeks ago , this member had apparently phoned me before and I had not been in . You are obviously aware of the identity of this person........I'll ring you and you can let me know who it is. Sadly I am aware that more Sea Trout are being caught but not reported by those who should know better . Again, you're obviously aware who this person is/ these people are. I'll get the names off you and deal with it. It's unfortunate that people have in the past felt it unnecessary to report fish caught and even more unfortunate that they continue to do so despite being notified on here and by notices placed on various Beats. This cannot be allowed to continue next season.......anglers will be required to report fish within 7 days of capture. They will be able to contact 3 people and reporting fish will be a mandatory condition of membership. Anyone found transgressing this and any other rule including those concerning boundaries, will be asked to explain their lack of cooperation. Unless they have an exceptional explanation they will be expelled from the Club immediately (without any reimbursement) and will not be allowed to rejoin. Thank you Mick for this report and on a positive note it's good to see that a few are being caught. I spoke to a guy today who fishes Argoed in Llangollen....a 20lber was caught there today and a lot of fish were seen. I fished all day but didn't manage a fish although I saw several. The other rod on the Beat lost a fish this morning and a Syndicate member had a bar of silver of 14lbs from Clarke's Pool. Weather permitting I'm sure that the next few days will see on increase in the CADAC tally.....Tight lines to you all. Chainman

Migratory fish Report 16/09/11 ; well a quick trip back to 09/09/11 when I mentioned three 'rumors' . A 12lb fish has since been reported for that date from Berwyn pool . I had also heard that someone had netted a 16lb fish for someone , it would appear that this was the aforementioned 12 lb fish which for some reason had grown in the telling . The alleged 21 1/2 lb fish remains unreported . Thanks to the many people who told me about this fish , if anyone is sure of its excistance please let me know . Or as the man who caught the 12lb fish drives a Freelander is it a fish that got even bigger in someones imagination ? Perhaps we will never know . Eleven more Salmon reported for the last week and one that was caught on 22/07/11 . This weeks fish ; 4 from St. Davids , 3 from Taylors , 1 from the Run , 1 from the Sewerage , 1 between Taylors and Whiskey and 1 from the Bridge pool . Some notable catches , one member hooked 4 fish in an hour , landing two and loosing two . The two landed coming on Flying Cs fitted with a single hook rather than a treble...presumably easier to unhook and release....food for thought there .....and only this afternoon another member rang to say that he had just caught two on the fly within an hour.....and just before he reported them....THANKS for the quick report , most refreshing . Although not notable I was one of the fortunate rods catching a bright fish on the fly yesterday . So we have had some water , there are now numbers of fish in the river . Tight Lines (and then report) ....Mick

Thanks again Mick......as I keep saying, it's great to have such information available and I would imagine that we've crept over the 50 mark? Just to let you all know that there are a large number of fish in the river. I have to confess that I've fished every day from last Friday until yesterday and I've seen several fish. Most of them are running and there are noteable numbers of fresh grilse......I had one yesterday which was an absolute bar of silver. I'm also reliably informed that there are large numbers of fish heading our way.....so hold on to your hats folks - the best may well be yet to come. Tight Lines Chainman

Migratory Fish Report 23/09/11 ; (the second....the damned computer rejecting the first) . Nineteen , yes NINETEEN Salmon reported (and two not reported that I am aware of) since the last report . One off Bridge Pool , Two off Tyfos (and two caught but not yet reported) , Three off St. Davids , Seven off Chain , One off The Wharf , One off Signal , Two off Llyn Du , One off Crogen and One off Taylors . Several first ever Salmon for members reported . One member , shall we call him the 'Gaffmeister' , no , we will stick with 'THE GAFFER ' has caught several Salmon this week and now leads the Cadac piscatorial League table with an impressive Six reported Salmon . This natural Gentleman (the elder statesman of the Breakfast Club)and expert in all legal methods for Salmon seems to be applying himself with purpose this season . He is closely followed by a cluster of members on Five Salmon each . CADAC is now on 79 Salmon reported one way or another , the fish are there to be caught . REMEMBER though that Salmon are running our river to breed . We are nearing the end of the season , please put Hen fish back now (my personal request), this will help our fishing in the future . Keep the Faith......Mick

Hi Chainman , I believe 116 last season. We are now on 85 that I am aware of , although still awaiting reports on one fish off the Wharf and two off Tyfos.....these reliably witnessed but hoping to hear from the captors. I had the biggest CADAC Salmon of the season reported yesterday , a Silver fish of seventeen and a half pounds on the fly . I went up river this morning for two hours to get away from the 'madding crowd' , standing happily in the River casting my Fly joyfully when a very polite gentleman came past on a large raft . He kindly paddled between myself and the bank , I politely asked if he was going far....'only to the river crossing' was his reply . The river crossing was about 50 Army cadets who appeared just down stream engaged in an excercise to cross the Dee . Very shortly afterwards a huge military Helicopter hovered overhead (I waved happily at the man in it who was waving back to me ) , it then landed in the field right next to river . I fished on , then a spaniel leapt into the water next to me....the local keeper dogging in his birds (presumably to keep them away from the increasing numbers of various types of cadets who were appearing in ever greater numbers). I had conversations with rugged looking men who appeared striding along the river looking for the river crossing . People who know me as a miserable old git might be surprised that all this left me feeling happy....but I really do feel very proud of our armed forces and those who help train them . Anyway I then went down to Corwen for some peace and quiet . No fish for me but I did enjoy my morning . Keep the Faith.....Mick

Just a quick reminder to those members who have missed the entry in the last Newsletter , the printed sign in the hut on Whiskey Pool , the club rules and word of mouth on the river......Tailors' Pool is reserved for those members with a stamped work party ticket between 24th and 30th September inclusively. This means members who did 2 or more work parties in 2010 . Work Parties done in 2011 will apply for next season . No other members to fish even if there is no one else on the pool . Thank You.....Mick

mick
do I understand you right? Tailors reserved for those who did 2 days or more work parties in 2010? Not 2011?
I did more than 2 days in 2010, so where's my ticket? I only did one day this year, so didn't even go to Tailors this weekend when I visted Sunday afternoon, thinking I was not qualified.
Clarification please.
