Migratory Fish Report 30/09/11 ; just back to the last report , still no news on the two fish off Tyfos but I now have a good idea who had the unreported fish off the Wharf . Taylors' 1 fish , St. Davids 2 fish , Wharf 3 fish , Bridge 1 fish , Chain 1 fish , Sewerage , 1 fish and between Taylors and Whiskey 1 fish . Two years ago my Wife and I fished the Upper Nith . There was an excellent run of fish in evidence , pod after pod of fish running through the pools . I was interested to see that despite numerous very fresh fish being caught all fish were returned , unhooked in the net in the water and released . In discussion with the anglers it was evident that they were proud of THEIR river and returned fish to boost future runs of fish particularly at the back end of the season . Now I like to take a fish myself and have kept two this season but I have returned more than I have kept . Some members with multiple catches have killed every fish that they have caught . We still have seventeen days to go , think of the future . Our percentage catch returned to the river is currently poor but can still be improved . Today is the last day of bait fishing , no worming or shrimping after today , fly and spin only . Notable catches this week ; the largest of the season at 17 1/2 lbs on the fly and a 9lb fish caught on a Grayling rod and 4lb line . Good luck for the rest of the season......Mick

Migratory Fish Report 07/10/11 ; well what a sad week the club lost one of its very best in Gordon Smith . Gordon was a Gentleman . When my wife and I joined CADAC not so many years ago my wife was short of a decent Salmon fly reel . Gordon who hardly knew us , lent her a very nice example of a Hardy number 2 Salmon . This was unbelievably generous ,

continued ..... I wouldn't lend one of my Hardy Reels to anyone....what a generous man . My thoughts are with his daughter Tina and all his family at this time . Fish reported this week ; 3 off Tyfos , 1 off St Davids , 1 off the Run and 1 off the Chain . The number of fish that I am told have been caught but not reported continues to grow ; I still don't have the name of the captor of a 9 1/2lb Hen fish caught on the Wharf on 24/09/11 . The two fish from Tyfos are not the ones reported this week , I am aware of 3 being caught on the Chain and not reported....amazing when above the clocking in station on the Chain is a sign asking people to report migratory fish to me . Possibly most interesting was when I visited the Hendwr caravan site during the week to enquire about costs of keeping a caravan there . A very pleasant gentleman there suspecting my interest in country sports (the mole skins , check shirt and brogues might have given me away ) told me how good the fishing is on the river up there . The caravaners having caught no less than 4 Salmon in one day from one pool there this season . On CADAC waters I asked ?'Oh yes' was the reply . I asked the gentleman to encourage those using the site to report their fish . This might (or might not ) have led to a Mr Tipler reporting two fish to Harry Carr , caught this week on Tyfos. If you read this report Mr Tipler thank you but would you give me a ring on 01939 261100 to verify if you killed or released your fish . We are up to 97 fish reported one way or another with quite a few to add that I am assured have been caught , I just do not yet know by whom . There will be a period of one week at the end of the season for late reports , after this my report for the season will be completed and passed to the club Chairman . Just a few days to go and rain about....keep fishing.....Mick.

Migratory Fish Report 14/10 /11 ; 23 Salmon reported since the last report , 6 of them caught some weeks ago . 7 from Tyfos , 1 from the Alwen , 3 from Chain , 1 from Taylors , 3 from Crogan , 1 from Gwynodl , 3 from the Wharf , 2 from the Bridge and 2 from St Davids . Rumors still of a 25 lb fish of Crogan....but not reported and rumors of several other fish again not reported . So 119 Salmon to date . Some Sea Trout this week and awaiting reports of others , many people seem to think that they do not need to report Sea Trout , I have found out about many in conversation with anglers who had 'only' caught two or three and did not think it necessary to report them or just did not know they had to ? I will produce another report in three days time , there will then be 7 days in which to report fish and then my final seasons report will go to the club Chairman . Remember it is a club rule to report migratory fish and this rule is viewed seriously . Good Luck for the last three days .

Migratory Fish Report 18/10/11 ; nine fish reported for the last three days of the season , not many considering the angling pressure . Lots of fish about but difficult to tempt and in many cases to actually land . 2 off Crogen , 1 off Chain , 1 off Taylors , 1 off Tyfos , 1 off St. Davids , 1 off The Run , 1 Between Taylors and Whisky and 1 off Signal . Pleased to say that I showed some 'Hot Spots' on Signal to a friend who shortly afterwards caught his first Welsh Dee fish....I think he will join again next season , well done Chris . The 25lb rumour did materialise into a reported fish , this being the biggest reported CADAC fish this season.....I hope its captor posts a photo . I have 127 Salmon reported for the season off CADAC waters . I know that others have been caught but not reported , in some cases I even know who caught them (expect a phone call) and in other cases only have a description of the persons involved . A huge THANK YOU to those who have reported fish . To those who have not reported fish I have to say that I do not understand why , you are doing the Club and yourselves a diservice . On the Sea Trout front although I will produce a report I feel that this will reflect an even more unrealistic number than will the Salmon report as many anglers despite standing next to a sign saying 'report Salmon and Sea Trout to Mick Bates' have told me that they 'did not know'! Some have even done this regarding Salmon (stood by the same sign)....maybe I'm just an unforgiving old so and so ! Many I have spoken to tell me that they have caught a couple of Sea Trout of low weight and did not think it worth phoning . The value of our waters is measured on the numbers of migratory fish caught . This might be my last report as I took on the job as a 'stand in' , you will all be informed through this forum and the News Letter of who to report migratory fish to next season . Thanks for the interesting 'chats' with excited and successful anglers......Keep The Faith.....Mick

Well we did end the season with 127 Salmon reported and some rumours of other fish . This is a slight increase on last season when 116 where reported....hopefully with good water and reliable reporting we can improve on this next season . The percentage of fish returned was down on last season and I find this personally disapointing but again next season we can improve on this . The Club is 'advising' that members do not take more than three salmon each next season , not a rule but a request ! Sea Trout , well we ended up with 53 fish being reported , largest 4 1/2 lb . I am sure that this is totally non reflective of the amount of Sea Trout caught ...this is reflected by the lack of an 'in depth' Sea Trout report from myself . Thanks to those who did report them but many I 'bumped into' on the river told me that they 'did not know' or felt it not necessary to report their Sea Trout . The club will be taking a much firmer approach to reporting migratory fish next season....please be sure to read the new Club rules when they arrive , migratory fish MUST be reported within seven days of capture....no excuses !!! An 'in depth' Salmon catch report was given out to those attending the AGM....it does make interesting reading . The Chain , Berwyn and St Davids providing the huge majority of Salmon caught on CADAC waters . A huge thank you to the Club Chairmans' wife who typed up the Salmon report for me , this saved me literally days of work . I will be doing the migratory fish reporting 'job' again next season and hope to start hearing from you all in March when the season opens . Tight Lines....Mick
